I had a thyroid ultrasound yesterday which only confirmed that I have only tiny specs (if any) remaining of my thyroid..not sure what cuases the 'lump' I feel when lying on my RHS, but technician thinks it may be a slightly displaced submandibular gland....if you want to check this out, see salivary glands ... wont let me copy and paste address...!!
I suspect this blog is turning into a garden diary...not especially interesting, but until something else comes along..... I can't seem to relocate the photos above, to come down below this writing, soooooo.... the top one is three of my budgerigars (parakeets in North America I think, but natives of Oz)...I have about 20 in anoutside aviary.
The bottom photo is the of the first camelia for the new season..."Midnight"..the buds on this plant are almost black.

More excitement in a few days.....

Monday 25 July

Hellebores are putting on quite a show now. I have a big color range...from whitest of white, through cream to pink, to very very dark burgundy. They are difficult plants to photograph, as their heads naturally hang down, and at this time of year I am a bit averse to lying right down on the ground to get a great photo..! They are certainly bringing a nice touch of colour to many corners of my garden...under trees and many poor light situations. They cheerfully create new seedling each year, and I cheerfully transpant same to a new locations.

Thursday 21 July

This is always the first of my rhododendrons to flower each year...frosts permitting..!! It is named Christmas Cheer, so it certainly wasn't bred in the southern hemisphere....

I'm thinking we will have a frost overnight--beautiful crystal clear evening ---but any icy feel to the air. There is a bright, bright moon...actually, it is so clear, I can see the not-too-distant mountains glistening with snow. Should the frost eventuate, those pretty pink flowers will just be an awful mush by lunchtime tomorrow (but the leaves don't get harmed)....

I suppose I have around 36 rhododendrons plus about 10 azaleas...same sort of family. Lots of room in 2 acres for lots of trees and shrubs..!!
Most ornamentals seem to do well in our climate...can't grow the tropical ones of course.

Tuesday 19 July 2005

I still haven't gathered my thoughts as to just what I wish to blog about...so another photo to share...
This was taken today about 4.30pm. The blue-ish looking patch of sky top left is just an optical illusion...it has been raining lightly almost all day. Sorry the field looks a bit dark...I should have taken the photo earlier..!!

Taken mid June....

Photos are taken the same day, but one obviously later than the other....different trees, aspects also. I'm trying not to publish old photos, so my garden will be 'new' come spring....

15th July 2005

Hi from Enn Zed...
I am very new to this 'blogging' and if you were in this room with me you would know just how ignorant I am with regard to navigating this site. I have already had two posts disappear. Saying the same thing for the third time is getting a bit tiresome. Still, needs must.....

Eve's 'Eden' comprises 2 acres of trees, shrubs, roses, climbers and perennials, plus 5 acres of 'forest'---NZ native trees and ferns. There are lots of lawns for Adam to mow. These days he no longer has to crawl around on hands and knees armed with scissors, but has the mind-numbing task of riding on the lawn tractor ( i.e. a ride-on-mower to us down-unders..). Currently my garden/yard is looking a bit drab...it's that time of year down here---winter..!! I will post some photos when I know how....

Our winters aren't really serious affairs...cold, but relatively so---no 6ft of snow piled up at my back door..odd snow shower though, as we live quite close to 9,000 & 7,000 ft mountains/active volcanoes... Day temperatures are around the 40F mark just now...presently wind is gusting, and it is raining.

I hope this post doesn't disappear into cyber space...
